Veterans making it count

Indian Premier League [IPL] is a platform that is known for providing opportunities to youngsters. Over the years, several youngsters who were not known by many came and conquer this opportunity and made names for themselves.

But this year’s IPL season is something different. This year, several veterans of this game whose career was considered finished are showing the world that they have a lot of cricket left and can easily give any youngster a run for their money.

This season, we have witnessed several astonishing performances from these veterans, who helped in changing the course of the game and showing to the world, what experience can do.

Amit Mishra

The 40-year-old leggie, who was released last year by the Delhi franchise, stated that they are thankful for their services and would like to provide more chances to the youngsters. In reply to this, Mishra said that he is thankful for their support, but he believes he still has a lot of cricket left inside him.

And the same happen, he was bought by Lucknow Super Giants, and the fourth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history did not disappoint them.

He grabbed the opportunity with both hands and showed his class. In his very first game with his flight and sharp googlies, Mishra gave the Hyderabad batsmen a hard time and grabbed two crucial wickets,  while bowling at the death.

Not just that, many criticized him for being unfit. He shuns all those by showing agility on the field and also taking a quick diving catch onto his left.

In his second game, when all bowlers were going for plenty against RCB at Chinaswamy. He just conceded 18 runs from three overs.

Piyush Chawla

Another leggie and another veteran, Piyush had been part of several franchises and also won the trophy with them. But the past few seasons were not in his favor. The man from U.P. did not get many opportunities, and whatever chances he got, he was taken to the cleaners.

This resulted in being dropped from the team. But this year, when he was bought by MI. Chawala made sure that he make it count. He worked hard on his fitness and added new variations to his bowling arsenal.

In all the games he has played till now, the 34-year-old has not just been economical but has also provided crucial breakthroughs whenever his captain wanted one.

Anjikya Rahane

Anjikya Rahane was the vice-captain of the Indian test team, a strong batting pillar in the middle order, and a great fielder, but as they say, nothing is permanent.

Within a year, he lost his place on the side and dropped from the BCCI contract list, his previous franchise released him, and he was even struggling in the domestic arena. The time was very hard for him, but hard times create strong men, a saying well suited for the Mumbai lad.

Rahane worked extremely hard waiting for his moment. This season he was bought by CSK, and Jinx stood up to his former Indian captain MS Dhoni’s expectations.

He shut the mouths of all those who denounced him for his low strike rate by scoring his fastest fifty in just 19 balls against the MI. Following up with a quick score of the 30s with a strike rate of more than 160. Adding to it, his outstanding fielding showed his fitness level and hard work.

Cricket is a game that always allows you to perform and show the world that age is just a number and you can still win matches for your side whether you are old or no matter how much the world criticizes you. Just wait for your moment, and when it arrives, make it count.
