It's been only one week since the start of this year's IPL. We have
already witnessed several great encounters. The week was full of high scoring
contests, last ball thrillers, records and achievements.
From the opening game of the season, it's all about the sixes and big
totals from the teams. In all the matches there were some great performances
from the players and teams.
The new way to
win
From the last few
seasons, it was all about the team who is fielding first will going to have the advantage over the other.
But this year, tables have turned. In all the seven
matches played so far, only once the team fielding first was able to win [CSK
vs MI opening match], while all the others lost. The Towers of the
last over
In all the games played so far, there had been many skyscrapers in the final
over of the innings. The 20th over across seven first innings has so far seen
124 runs getting scored at a rate of 17.71, way higher than what it has been in
the recent seasons.
Lack of match practice
Numerous players
are coming after a long gap. And have looked rusty at times, especially in the
field. As many as 17
catches went down in all the seven matches played so far.
RCB have been again
at the top of the table of an unwanted record by dropping six catches from two
games, among those catches two dropped by the Virat Kohli, which cost them a
game. DC is next on the list who dropped five. The week of records
Several
records were made and broken in the first week.
1. Mumbai has lost all their opening matches since IPL 2013.
2. For the 10th time, a match has gone to super over in IPL history.
3. King XI Punjab made the lowest total in the history of super overs in IPL 2 runs.
4. Chris Jordan equalled the record of conceding,
most runs (30 runs) in the last over of the innings.
5. Lungi Ngidi also joined the feat of conceding most runs (30) in the final over of the innings.
6. KL Rahul scored his second hundred in the IPL
and also recorded the score of 132 not out, which is highest by a captain and an Indian player.
7. He also became the fastest Indian player to score 2000 runs beating Sachin Tendulkar in IPL.
8. The match between CSK and RR witnessed the maximum number of sixes (33) in the match.
9. Mumbai Indians registered most wins (20)
against an opponent in IPL by defeating KKR.
