IPL- Kings XI Punjab SWOT Analysis
In the series of SWOT analysis, the fourth team is Kings XI Punjab.
The men from Punjab were one of the front runners for the title in their previous two seasons but after a brilliant start to their campaign, they weren’t able to capitalize it and fall back. KXIP reached the finals in 2014 but weren’t able to cross the final hurdle.
Punjab has the most destructive opening pair in the IPL with Chris Gayle and KL Rahul on their side. The latter has been in the form of his life and now is the captain of the side there is a lot of expectations from him.
They also got Nicholas Pooran who is in great form in the recently concluded CPL. The newly bought Deepak Hooda, Jimmy Neesham, Chris Jordan, K Gowtham provides more option to the management with all-rounder slot.
WEAKNESS
The team does not have an experienced bowling attack especially in the spin department which is a very important factor on the pitches of UAE.
In the previous seasons, the team had Ravi Ashwin as an experienced player. But this time they only have Mujeeb Ur Rehman and Murugan Ashwin who has the experience of this level.
OPPORTUNITY
It’s a great chance for the Ravi Bishnoi. The young Leggie has impressed everyone with his googlies in the U-19 world cup. This is a chance for him to make his name amongst the big boys of the cricket.
The most serious concern for the Punjab Team is that they don’t have many backup options in their bowling department. With Mohammed Shami is the only veteran in the death overs, if any injury occurs to him, the team does not have that base covered.
BEST XI
KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal /
Chris Gayle, Glenn Maxwell, Nicholas Pooran, Mandeep Singh, Chris Jordan,
Ravi Bishnoi, Krishnappa Gowtham, Mohammed Shami, Mujeeb Ur Rehman, Sheldon
Cottrell / Ishan Porel.
