HOW MORGAN CHANGED ENGLISH CRICKET

A captain is as good as his team, a statement that Eoin Morgan proved to be true. A captain can inspire you, and lead you but a captain does also need a team that can do wonders.

The year 2015 was a dark time for England cricket, they were knocked out of the ODI world cup by Bangladesh in the league stage. They were struggling as a team to perform. Then Captain Eoin Morgan decided to take some bold steps to change the fortune of English cricket. Morgan brought all his white ball experience into play which he gained by playing across the globe.

He changed the approach of the Englishmen and asked them to play furious cricket and dominate the opposition from the word go. For this, he formed a team based on these three pillars.

Attacking bowling lineup

Morgan decided to have a dangerous bowling attack. He wanted bowlers who can surprise the opposition batting with express pace and can attack the opposition batting from the start and get wickets. So then added the likes of Mark Wood, Liam Plunkett, Jofra Archer, Reece Topley, etc.

Apart from it, he added a variety of options by bringing in spinners like Adil Rashid, and Liam Dawson who can dry up the runs during the middle overs and take wickets and break partnerships.

Army of allrounders

Captain Eoin Morgan knows the value of multidimensional players in the white ball format. He added many players like Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, David Willey, and Chris Jordan to name a few to his squad who could give him some overs with the ball and put some runs on the board for the team.

This helped in improving the balance of the team and gave them the flexibility of trying out different combinations according to the situation.

 Destructive batsmen

In the shorter format of the game, you need to cash in the powerplay, and play aggressively to put pressure on the opponent.

For this role, Jason Roy and Alex Hales were given the responsibility alongside Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler. This resulted in England registering the highest ODI total in the history of the game twice.
These changes to the English team setup proved to be remarkable. Ever since these changes took place Englishmen became a force to be reckoned with. This whole new approach not just helped them to win at home but also helped them to be victorious outside.

Eoin Morgan's tenure as England's captain had been remarkable. Since 2016, the England team has managed to reach the knockout stage of all the ICC tournaments and lift the trophy during the 2019 ODI world cup.“He is England’s greatest white-ball captain, a World Cup-winning captain.”
