Story of an Architect turned Cricketer
"AAP CRICKET KO CHODd DETE HO, PAR KABHI CRICKET AAPKO NHI CHODTA".
This single statement is enough to justify the value of cricket in one's life.
People might call a person crazy if he quits his well-settled job and decided to make a career in sports, that too in a game which he hasn't played for years.
It is the story of Varun Chakravarthy, who quitted his job as an architect and at the age of 25, and rediscovered his passion for the sport after six years of stop playing it and after four years of struggle he made it to the Indian team.
Varun started his career as a fast bowler, but he wasn't able to make a place for himself in the school team. To get into the team, he started as a wicketkeeper. But in college, he decided to focus on studies and gave up cricket. After completing his education, he started working in an architectural firm, but soon he left the job to follow his passion.
This time he started his journey as a leg-spinner. And soon enough he got a chance to play in Tamil Nadu Premier league in 2017. Impressed with his bowling Dinesh Karthik summoned him as a net bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders.
It was just a teaser of success for him, following next year in 2018 he made his debut for his state team. And the year of 2019 was the year when everything changed he got picked for the IPL by Kings XI Punjab for the amount Rs 8.5 crore. It was the day when the name Varun Chakravarthy was trending everywhere.
But he had a forgetful debut for kings as he was slammed for 20 runs in very first over and due to injury, he missed the rest of the tournament.
Next year again, he was in the auction pool. And this time he was bought by KKR for the price of Rs 4.8 crore. However, this time, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and performed brilliantly.
In 11 matches played so far this season, he has picked 13 wickets with an economy of 7.40. It also includes a match-winning five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals.
It was just a matter of time that after a few days of this performance, he got the chance to represent his country on the tour of Australia.
