IPL - Mumbai Indians SWOT Analysis

 In this year of the pandemic when everything was put on a halt due to the lockdown. Every cricket fan was eagerly waiting for this year’s IPL which was postponed until further notice by BCCI. But now after the gap of so many months, the 13th edition of IPL is going to take place in UAE.

           

After the last year auctions teams, players, the coaching staff have changed a lot, let’s do a SWOT analysis of the teams one by one. Starting with the most successful team of IPL and the last year champions Mumbai Indians.

The Mumbai franchise released as many as 10 players from their last year squad and bought six players during the auction, in which they spend a heavy amount of Rs 8 crore to buy the services of Australian speedster Nathan Coulter-Nile. 

They also bought the hard-hitting opener Chris Lynn for the base price of Rs 2 crore and they also bought Trent Boult, Dhawal Kulkarni and Sherfane Rutherford through trade deals with their previous teams.

Strengths

MI has a very strong top order and a deep batting line-up consisting of world-class players. Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma makes the one the most destructive opening pairs of the IPL and the addition of Chris Lynn which it takes them to next level. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan take care of the middle order.

They also have a plethora of all-rounders consisting of Pandya brothers Krunal and Hardik, Kieron Pollard, Mitchell McClenaghan which makes their batting very deep.

         

Weakness

This year team will miss the services of Lasith Malinga, who has opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons. Jasprit Bumrah who suffered from a back injury in past cannot be risked playing every game although the team has brought Trent Boult, Coulter-Nile, Dhawal Kulkarni as backup options for them.

 

The team also don’t have much variety in the spin department they only have Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahar as their go-to options with Jayant Yadav and Anukul Roy in reserves.

 

Opportunity

 It’s a great opportunity for the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan to put on some great performances and get into the Indian side.

Threats

The Mumbai team doesn’t have experienced bench strength to coverup for the injuries or replacements. The team also don’t have a good record in UAE as the last time when they played here in 2014, they lost all their 5 games.
